In the 1964 christmas special Rudolph the red nose reindeer, why was the doll on the island of misfit toys?

My mother and I could never figure out why the doll in the pink dress was a misfit. Anybody help?

1. She was supposed to say things like "mama" but could not.
2. Misfit Doll is an unnamed, but seemingly normal girl rag doll. Her presence on the island is never explained. [1], though one accepted reason is that the problem is somewhat psychological. Another possibility, as the doll mentions in her song "Even a doll that says 'how do you do'", this could mean that the doll is a misfit because she can actually talk without pushing buttons or pulling a string, and might have had vocal cords.
