Santa

Moms, honestly, how ready are you for Christmas to be over?

I love Christmas. It is my favorite holiday. We have been lucky this year that we actually had enough money to get our daughters presents (especially our 6 year old who had some pretty specific wants). My 8 month old could care less, but just the same I got her quite a bit. The Christmas tree is up, the house is decorated, presents are mostly wrapped (just waiting on the Santa presents). We have Christmas carols playing, pies baking, and even though I'm loving the atmosphere, I can't wait for Christmas to be over. I went shopping with my best friend yesterday to get some last minute ingredients for pies and banana nut bread, well she needed to stop in the children's clothing section. Sure enough I came out with three more presents for my 6 year old! I can't tell you how many things I said no to. It's like something comes over me at Christmas where I would normally be able to put the toy, book, sweater, etc. back I just can't when it comes to Christmas shopping for my kids! Anyone else feel this way? How many of you are ready for Christmas to be over? How many of you want it to linger? I love how friendly most people become during this season. I don't want that to end!

  1. Ugh, Bah Humbug. I just don't like Christmas. I don't know where it's written that all well-adjusted people (especially parents) have to like the holidays, but I don't. I'm hanging on for next Halloween. That's my holiday.
  2. I've been having a hard time getting into Christmas for the last few years. It seems to be a cash grab for many. I hide it for the kids of course and try to make the best of it, but it's a stressful time.
  3. I'm with you. I love it sincerely and I'm going to see my brother and his wife and my dad tonight and my brother lives 500 miles away. Then tomorrow night we hang out and have dinner at my moms. I love seeing my family but I'm with you, I'm ready for it to be over. I think it's just a system overload.
  4. Yes very ready. The "gimme" attitudes get old quick. But I love the lights and music that come with Christmas. I just hate the attitude many kids take of "I want I want". But I am eager to tell my children the story of the birth of Christ and the purpose for which He died. To me that's what makes Christmas worth while even with all the commercialization. Stopping to reflect on God's greatest gift ever.
  5. I am so excited for CHristmas, I can't wait for my little guy to see all his gifts! I really like Christmas, I get to see people, and there are parties and food, and everyone is happy. It's nice for a while, but the routine is nice when it's over. TO be honest, one of my favorite parts of Christmas is the shopping the day after!
  6. I love Christmas, but I think parents do this to themselves. Your kids don't need 20 presents from you. One gift from Santa should be enough (and it shouldn't be the best one, either). Parents run themselves ragged and put themselves in debt trying to make the perfect Christmas and then wonder why it doesn't feel right to them. It doesn't feel right because you're making it all about the gifts rather than letting it just be a happy family time.
  7. its like that Christmas is can become a pretty stresful time for everyone
  8. Totally with you! I am not a mother but I am the eldest in 5 so I know what it is like to want to buy the kids everything cute you come across however things just get so hard with all those people being at the mall and stores and with this H1N1 virus going around it creeps me out to take the kids out to a public place. I thought we were in a recession and you can't even find parking at those places. I do also enjoy how jolly people get but lets face it Santa needs to come and go soon because I cannot stand all the stress that comes with the holidays... Merry Christmas!
