A Christmas Carol 3D, 2009 - Too scary for kids?

I'm rewarding my 8 y/o son tomorrow night for good behavior and grades lately, and he really wants to go to the theater... trouble is, there's not just a lot of movies out there at the moment... Has anyone seen this new Christmas Carol movie and are the rumors that it's 'too scary for children' true?

1. My son saw it at a birthday party yesterday (he's 8 also) and he did say it was pretty scary. Why not wait a week and go see Planet 51?
2. I've heard many of my friends say their children thought it was frightening, but I haven't seen it myself, so I cannot confirm that. In the commercial, it looks quite humorous.
3. I saw the Christmas Carol yesterday.I thought it was great but i kinda thought it was a little scary at some parts. i thought the movie was great though.im kind of a scaredy cat so i think its fine though
4. by all means go see the movie! it would be an awesome movie for the time of year it is and an awarding one at that...depends on your child but that movie and its grapics are appreciated by most children ....i say go and enjoy it ...i know im an adult and am very much looking forward to it and taking my kiddos. show him the trailers off the net from the movie section and see what his response is...or just surprize him ...talk about what a great movie it will be, a rare one at that...in 3D, and let him know it will be fun and you can share it together.
5. I'm fourteen and I went and saw it with my boyfriend last weekened. I must say, it was a little bit scary. If he's brave and ghosts and things popping out at him don't bother him then I say go see it! If not, maybe you should see something else. It's a really good movie though.
