we fly out to lapland tomorrow, on a charterd flight with bmi.our baggage allowance is 20kg per person?
our kids are 15 and 9yrs. the 15yr old has her own luggage weighing 12kgs, but we have put our luggage plus the 9yrs old in x1 suitcase weighing 26kgs. is this acceptable. there is nothing on the tickets/website to suggest 20kg per person has to be in seperate suitcases. are we ok combining the 3 wight allowances in 1?

- ask them not us, its they who say Y or N
- 'elf n Safety dictate the max. weight a baggage handler can lift. 20kg is per person in 1 bag. At check-in you will be given a choice, leave 6kg behind or put it in the 12kg bag. So do it before you get there!
- No, it will get refused and you will be charged excess baggage. Don't risk it!
- No you need to split it up. One suitcase is for one person (according to the airline), therefore you have one person carrying 12kg, one carrying 26kg, and two carrying hand luggage only. Get another bag and split up the 26kg. That way you will also have spare weight to fill up with souvenirs :)
- the limit is there for a reason You can't expect baggage handlers to lift 26kgs without a surcharge and you can't 'pool' luggage Just split it up so that you have 20 kgs or under in each suitcase that you are taking
- Years ago people combined their baggage allowance but these days airlines do not generally allow it. According to their website you can take as many cases as you like so long as each passenger's total weight is 20kg. However they will carry bags with a maximum weight of 32kg. I think you should give them a ring and email them. Whoever you speak to will answer but don't rely on airport staff agreeing with their interpretation. With a written reply on email you could print it and take it with you.
