Now some experts claim we are heading for an mini ice age,is this the end of global warming?

The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists. Their predictions – based on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans – challenge some of the global warming orthodoxy’s most deeply cherished beliefs, such as the claim that the North Pole will be free of ice in summer by 2013. According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1242011/DAVID-ROSE-The-mini-ice-age-starts-here.html

  1. ergh and as if it would be that easy! lol
  2. Every bar/pub is full of experts, you tend not to heed them.
  3. 1. The "Greenhouse Effect" is a natural and valuable phenomenon, without which, the planet would be uninhabitable. 2. Modest Global Warming, at least up until 1998 when a cooling trend began, has been real. 3. CO2 is not a significant greenhouse gas; 95% of the contribution is due to Water Vapor. 4. Man's contribution to Greenhouse Gasses is relatively insignificant. We didn't cause the recent Global Warming and we cannot stop it. 5. Solar Activity appears to be the principal driver for Climate Change, accompanied by complex ocean currents which distribute the heat and control local weather systems. 6. CO2 is a useful trace gas in the atmosphere, and the planet would actually benefit by having more, not less of it, because it is not a driver for Global Warming and would enrich our vegetation, yielding better crops to feed the expanding population. 7. CO2 is not causing global warming, in fact, CO2 is lagging temperature change in all reliable datasets. The cart is not pulling the donkey, and the future cannot influence the past. 8. Nothing happening in the climate today is particularly unusual, and in fact has happened many times in the past and will likely happen again in the future. 9. The UN IPCC has corrupted the "reporting process" so badly, it makes the oil-for-food scandal look like someone stole some kid's lunch money. They do not follow the Scientific Method, and modify the science as needed to fit their predetermined conclusions. In empirical science, one does NOT write the conclusion first, then solicit "opinion" on the report, ignoring any opinion which does not fit their predetermined conclusion while falsifying data to support unrealistic models. 10. Polar Bear populations are not endangered, in fact current populations are healthy and at almost historic highs. The push to list them as endangered is an effort to gain political control of their habitat... particularly the North Slope oil fields. 11. There is no demonstrated causal relationship between hurricanes and/or tornadoes and global warming. This is sheer conjecture totally unsupported by any material science. 12. Observed glacial retreats in certain select areas have been going on for hundreds of years, and show no serious correlation to short-term swings in global temperatures. 13. Greenland is shown to be an island completely surrounded by water, not ice, in maps dating to the 14th century. There is active geothermal activity in the currently "melting" sections of Greenland. 14. The Antarctic Ice cover is currently the largest ever observed by satellite, and periodic ice shelf breakups are normal and correlate well with localized tectonic and geothermal activity along the Antarctic Peninsula. 15. The Global Warming Panic was triggered by an artifact of poor mathematics which has been thoroughly disproved. The panic is being deliberately nurtured by those who stand to gain both financially and politically from perpetuation of the hoax. 16. Scientists who "deny" the hoax are often threatened with loss of funding or even their jobs. 17. The correlation between solar activity and climate is now so strong that solar physicists are now seriously discussing the much greater danger of pending global cooling. 18. Biofuel hysteria is already having a disastrous effect on world food supplies and prices, and current technologies for biofuel production consume more energy than the fuels produce. 19. Global Warming Hysteria is potentially linked to a stress-induced mental disorder. 20. In short, there is no "climate crisis" of any kind at work on our planet.
  4. ...this Planet has been spinning around in this solar system for about 4.5 Billions years now... It gets HOT and it gets COLD, then it gets HOT again and then it gets COLD... this cyclical climatology will variably continue for about another 3.0 Billion years when the Galaxy "Cains Minor" begins to collide with our Galaxy...(and) then things will start to get really HOT !
  5. Global warming is a political movement. It is similar to many religions which predict a world disaster. I live in Toronto Canada and the temperature outside now is Minus fourteen Celcius. In science, when one has a theory, then one makes a hypothesis of what would happen in the future, based on calculating how the theoretical model would behave going forward. Then one tests the hypothesis, by performing the experiment. If the outcome is not as predicted, this means the theory is wrong. If the outcome is as predicted, this provides support for the theory, but does not exclude other theories that would predict the same outcome.
  6. When you're educated, you'll believe only half of what you hear. When you're intelligent, you'll know which half.
  7. no, that article is not correct. the mail is hardly an unbiased or scientific source. go to http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/ for what the scientists at the national snow and ice data center actually say. 2007 had the record setting low ice, this year's is indeed slightly above that and is merely the equal second lowest ice area, still well below the 30 year average. http://nsidc.org/data/seaice_index/images/daily_images/N_timeseries.png professor Latif 's modelling study actually said; "global surface temperature may not increase over the next decade, as natural climate variations in the North Atlantic and tropical Pacific temporarily offset the projected anthropogenic warming." note the 'temporarily' and 'offset'. he doesnt say it isnt happening, just that variability in weather patterns will mask it for a few decades.
  8. I have had it up to here with "Experts", last year, remember? we were all going to be dying of heat or swine flu, people go into hospital, experts say one thing, and it turns out to be another, I just rely on common sense now, and strangely enough, I dont get many wrong! Be happy x
  9. I think you summed up an important consideration in your first 4 words "Now some experts claim". 'Experts' in the food industry have continually changed positions and contradicted themselves. This goes on still. :: So we should be sceptical of 'experts'. That is a scientific scepticism, not the dogma induced blind acceptance of what somebody or some belief states. In the absence of compelling evidence the logical conclusion is just a case of 'not proven'. :: The Earth is heading for another ice age on the geological clock. This is due to it's rotations (around the sun and around itself. Tho orbit around the sun is not circular and consistent, it is elliptical. That means that the distance from the sun changes, and over geological time (thousands to millions of years) the extremes will be encountered (furthest/closest/etc.). Factor in the Earth spinning around itself, and the relative position of any point on Earth will also be different and constantly changing. :: The next Ice Age will have nothing to do with Global Warming (or the influence of Mankind on the environment. Unless we can physically adjust the motion of the Earth, which would be a cosmically stupid thing to try and do at this stage of our evolution when we know so relatively little), then the next Ice Age is inevitable. After that Ice Age, the Earth will change again, or at least just keep on changing as it always does, and will do until the great vaporisation that will occur when the Sun finally dies, which it will do. :: So our little awareness during our time in this Universe, is less than the blink of an eyelid. It doesn't even register cosmically, we are that small. :: Now let us assume that Mankind is having no impact on the environment, that is any natural changes are happened naturally. Even though we are heading to another Ice Age (which will not be the last before the Earth is destroyed), that does not mean that there will be a linear progression in terms of climate. It will not get gradually colder everywhere every year until Ice Age. There will be many and even extreme changes including warming. There will be periods of ambient change (such as the overall cooling over a large area) which may last decades. It also does not mean that the entire Earth will suffer extremely cold conditions. The areas affected will also change. :: This is important. If we are to identify whether Mankind is having an impact, we need to be able to understand what would be happening if we weren't. But that is not a simple or simplistic thing. We find it extremely difficult (and requires huge computer processing) to achieve short term probable forecasts, so analysing the planetary climate and it's manifestations over decades is not possible yet, except perhaps in the most qualified ways. :: But that does not mean that we cannot or should not try and gain as much intelligence as we can about it. Even the 'Climate Change' sceptics cannot deny the inevitability of natural climate change, and the consequences on Humanity could and will be profound. To ignore this is stupid. The issue concerns the impact of our environment on our Species, and possibly our survival. :: Day by day we get more observation, recording, and analysis. So far, there has been nothing that convinces me that Climate Change due to Human behaviour is not valid. Has the case been proved? To me, beyond a reasonable doubt, though not definitively yet. :: What is concerning is the way 2 polarise points of view seem to spend more effort challenging each other (or doing nothing at all) than trying to address the serious issues being presented to us. :: So no, this is not the end of global warming as a global issue. The label itself is somewhat misleading. The issue is climate change (which we should expand to include geological changes). Whether the pro or con lobby is correct is actually a distraction. Of course we should know, and in due course, I am sure we will 'prove' the case one way or the other, but if it becomes the cause of procrastination or apathy, then that is stupid. :: A last perspective (hopefully not a perspective of the last...) is who will pay? Well we all will of course eventually, and the survival of the species is at stake, so no small consideration. But the issue is more significant than you may realise. In our Capitalist based Economies, what we do is limited by the amount of money available. We have now put a 'cost' on life. The implications are profound. All I can do is hope that whatever effort we are able to put into the environment for the time being will help prevent some disasters, for disasters will come, until we become better at dealing with life in a more sensible way. We are a long way away from that right now... ::
  10. If it wasn't for the Ice age Dinosaurs will still be ruling this world.think about it 4 a minute
  11. Shame that Professor Latif spent so much time creating a report stating that the warming trend would reverse from 2000 onwards. I wonder how he felt when 2001 turned out to be a warmer year - maybe a little upset. The when 2002 was also warmer - he must have started to feel disappointed And then again in 2003 - The disappointment would be setting in by now And 2004 turned out to be warmer - really disappointed now And again in 2005 - guess he must have been going into a state of depression Yet again in 2006 - seriously depressed And 2007 as well - manically depressed Yet again in 2008 - incurably depressed and on the brink of suicide And finally, 2009 was also warmer - someone grab him before he jumps
  12. "even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this" I thought they already did. ---------------------------------------------------------- Edit: Arctic ice is well above its low! http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seaice.area.arctic.png
  13. No, because the mini-iceage is being blamed on global warming. That is why global warming is being replaced with the term 'global climate change'.
  14. If it's in the Daily Mail, it must be true.
  15. You know what? I don't care anymore. At the end of the day if man does something so wrong with the climate he destroys himself then he deserves what he gets. At least the Al Gore's and all the worlds politicians that use both examples to exploit the taxpayers will get theirs too. This is all a money making scenario for the few. Wake up people. You are being pulled by the nose and you seem to like it. Maybe I should invest in nose rings as it seems the rest of the economy has gone down hill.
  16. global warming, its a con, its a multi million pound money making scam, we get taxed to death on driving ,flying ,etc as long as we pay the taxes its ok to do the polluting and ruin the earth, cant believe every one cant see through the scam, the earth heats up then cools down always has always will, WAKE UP PEOPLE
  17. "experts" - yeah, loads of them around. Not a single one is able to predict what will happen in the next years with any degree of accuracy. All predictions are based on computer modelling with data input by humans based on whatever criteria they want to input to get the result they want. Lets face it, the Met office with its millions of pounds of equipment cannot even predict what the whether will be like in 2 days time. Do you really therefore listen to a climate "expert" telling you that x or y will happen in 10 or 20 years??
  18. Mojib Latif has denied that the Daily Mail accurately quoted him. His comment: "It comes as a surprise to me that people would try to use my statements to try to dispute the nature of global warming. I believe in manmade global warming. I have said that if my name was not Mojib Latif it would be global warming."
  19. Forget common sense and history, the GW folks need a cause to which they can make money and seem important. The myth is being used to justify tax increases and government programs.
