What happens at the North Pole?
I recently ran into a riddle that said : I left my campsite and hiked south for 3 miles. Turned east and hiked for 3 miles. Then turned north and hiked for 3 miles, at which time I came upon a bear inside my tent eating my food! The guy is in the North Pole because he walked those directions and ended up at the place he started. I don't get why he ended up at the place he started. Why does that happen in the North Pole?

- a compass points towards the north pole, moving south 3 miles is moving away from the pole, than 3 miles to the east would simply be walking in a circle around the pole, than walking north would bring you back to the north pole.
- If you go due south you will be following a longitude line which goes north and south. When you turn East you follow a latitude line BUT that line goes around the earth in a circle. So, going east is really going around the north pole. When you turn North again you will be following another longitude line and it will take you back to the north pole - your campsite. The riddle should be: I left my campsite and hiked south for 3 miles. Turned east and hiked for 3 miles. Then turned north and hiked for 3 miles, at which time I came upon a bear inside my tent eating my food! What was the color of he bear? ANS: The bear was white.
