What are your thoughts of the " new " Christmas carols playing non-stop at department stores?
I think they are nauseating because they are commercializing Christmas by urging people to spend a fortune of vain items such as expensive celebrity brand perfume, expensive useless knick knacks which have no purpose, and being total snobs who think they are so above people who have less than them. Hey crazygirl, hard/rock heavy metal music from the 1980s is far out the coolest, rock on!

- I think it is disgusting that these monstrous maggots are doing this! Those vile, vulgar worms!
- I don't care for them either. I'm not a big fan of any kind of music in department stores/malls. American culture is too noisy.
- what's new about them? forgive me, i don't go to department stores... i'm sure the snobs would look down on me :) lol...
- Christmas is overly commercialized and becoming more about how much people can spend and less about the real reason for the holiday. I work in retail and the worst time of year for us is this season. People get rude and nasty because the store doesn't have what they want. The music is crappy! I go home and listen to loud annoying stuff just to get the damn music out of my head.
- I'm with Ember Halo - I hate shopping and rarely go unless I have to. What's "new" about them? Christmas has always been commercialized. It's up to you to pull meaning out of all of this. I'm not even thinking about Christmas yet.
- Christmas annoys me. Humbug. In the words of Canadian music artist Matt Good, "Around here our ambition throws a non-perishable item in a donation bin at Christmas / And pats itself on the f.ucking back because it thinks it's done something decent." ________________ Hehe. That's sweet, Carrie. I know pretty much the whole _Avalanche_ album by heart and dabble in his older stuff with the band, before he went solo.
- I don't like Christmas music at all - it drives me nuts when they start playing it. Not the old stuff, not the new stuff. Well maybe that George Michael Christmas song, and I think there's a TLC one that's ok. I'm attributing the hate for Christmas music to the fact that I was forced to sing Christmas carols too much as a child. My mom calls me "the grinch".
- FRANZIA: You listen to Matthew Good? OMG I love you even more now. He is my absolute favourite dude EVER. I am in love with him like a 12 year old is in love with Justin Timberlake. "The only place to find freedom is in the dictionary, under F"
- Thanks for the reminder, I'm gonna put my ear plugs in my purse NOW. I haaaaaaate that crap and certainly does NOT make me jolly, nor want to spend money. After about 5 minutes I'm ready to stab myself in the ears just to make it stop!
- Say it ain't so, commercializing x-mas, what will the scum think of next. BTW, I love all of the different Chirstmas music, "classic" hymns to TranSiberian Express to jazz and country.
- Luckily, I haven't been to any department stores lately, so I get to escape from that.
- I worked retail and dreaded the season because of the incessant carols. it takes me OUT of the spirit, and unfortunately still doesn't draw me in. Carols are used to make people feel good in department stores so they spend more money. As with ANY music in a store. I would rather hear a choir or something than Santa Baby by any one. Seriously.
- i like listening to christmas music ,it gets me in a festive mood.i dont think that it makes me buy useless gifts,i ask everybody i know to select something that they really want and if it is in my means,i will buy it.with everything being so high in price this year i will make every attempt to keep my shopping down to a minimum, however,i only buy for my mate and three children.
- Christmas is Jesus' birthday. There are people out there trying to take it away, but they'll never do it. Christmas always has and always will be the day Christ was born. That is the reason for the season. NOBODY can EVER get rid of Christmas. It's here to stay. Christ is here to stay. There is a wonderful new album out by a woman who is not afraid to talk about the REAL meaning of Christmas. It's called Christmas in the Ancient Church, and it's choral music. All the parts are sung by one woman. Soprano, alto, tenor and bass. She does Christmas readings from the Bible also. I suppose they'll try to ban these CD's too, but I'm glad SOMEBODY is putting out CDs that are for CHRISTMAS, not just some pagan ritual or rock music. It's an awesome CD. You have to be in a quiet place and in a serious mood to get the most from it. It's the best Christmas CD I've heard in years. Listen to it: http://www.nancybarrow.com.
