  1. A bachelors degree in business is an undergraduate degree and an mba is a graduate degree, so the material is geared towards different groups of students. The material in the MBA is supposed to be more specialized and challenging than the bachelors business degree. MBA programs advise students to work for a couple years before starting the MBA degree.
  2. An undergrad business degree (BA, BS, BBA) and MBA education cover the same materials, and often the same textbooks. However, teachers explain the material differently. In a bachelors program, they know a lot of students don't have much work experience and can't understand the oddball stuff going on in the business world just yet, so they introduce you to topics to think about rather than go into deep problem-solving tactics covered in the MBA classes. MBA professors are likely to give a case problem and tell students, "okay, you figure it out on your own and explain to the class why you have such a bright idea." MBA classes expect you to already know how to whip up a powerpoint presentation quickly with a bunch of excel spreadsheets, so it's more like students teaching each other the whole time. If you were 100% set on getting an MBA, then you don't need a bachelors in business management at all, but of course you must have a college degree in whatever major you enjoy. A lot of engineering, nursing, even art majors get MBA's down the road to get a promotion or do something totally different. If you want a good job immediately after college, the business management degree a good way to go, and you can re-visit the MBA idea when you're older. Times change, MBA programs change, there might be a more interesting degree out there when you're 25-30 years old. So, bottomline, in business, it's all about work experience and what you do with the college degree. I know a lot of smart managers who only have an associates degree from a community college because they were already in the workforce while I was drinking and procrastinating in college. But if you're talking just the diploma on the wall, the MBA is a strong credential only if you know what to do with it. If you get an MBA with no experience, you'll be applying to 200 jobs and left wondering why nobody wants to hire you. SC is a local powerhouse for business majors in California, especially Silicon Valley, not nationwide, but that doesn't really matter. Good luck! Sorry so long, it's a good question. lol
