Santa

Why did Santa Claus settle on the North Pole and not the South Pole?

Public Comments

  1. north pole is way cooler than south pole
  2. Because he would have been upside down of course!!
  3. The penguins would have protested him building a workshop on their land.
  4. with all his fat and beard and stuff the south pole would have been to warm... so he went north.... also ,.the northern lights... cause he didnt want to have to pay an electric bill......
  5. Cuz the penguins and the elves just didn't get along.
  6. Free seal meat from the Eskimos and Huskies to keep him warm? Cheap rates on igloos? The Northern Lights? The company of Farley Mowat in a plaid skirt called a kilt that is still a skirt?
  7. Because that is where they send dead people.
  8. Because its a story and there is no SantaClaus. Sorry to break it to you.
  9. Probably becuse it is all down hilll from there!! Very intelligent question.
  10. because it was a german character in the first place, so north seemed the best choice.
  11. Wouldn't you want to be on top of the world too?
  12. He followed his star.
  13. The original story was of Sinter Klaus, who was Dutch. As the legend spread, it was assumed he lived in Lapland (hence the reindeer), a very cold place indeed.
  14. because the south pole is in summer on this time of year and it will be day light for the next few months , his rain deer would not be abe to handle all the heat.
  15. Illustrator Thomas Nast, who worked for Harpers Magazine from 1860-1880, built on the already Americanized versions of Santa Claus created by Washington Irving and Clement Clarke Moore, arbitrarily choose the North Pole as the location of Santa's Toy workshop, which is in keeping with Santa's original Dutch/Finnish (Lapland) roots. Children began to ask as to where Santa lived when he was not working on presents? The answer eventually given was that he just lived where his workshop was, which just so hapened to be in a place known for reaindeer habitation.
