When standing at the North Pole, which direction is North?

Since to my understanding North is the direction pointing to the North pole, it seems like when you are actually at that point, North would be undefined since there is no direction to point to. If however, North is defined in reference to South, then it would be pointing up from the North pole - which is actually away from the North Pole. It therefore seems to me like it is undefined at that point?

  1. You can think of the Earth's magnetic field as radiating from the end of the pole, and looping back to the South Pole. Therefore when you are standing at the North pole your compass would be pointing down...
  2. If you are talking about the North Geographic Pole you are asking a pointless question. The only geographic direction from that point is, South.
