As we know Naturaly earth is a big magnet. In magnet same pole will repels each other, take these condition when a magnet floats on surface (tied with rope), the north pole of a magnet suppose to be attracted by south pole of earth but we are accepting north direction shown by north pole of a magnet why?

  1. check out magnetic declination, the true magnetic north is not at the 'top of the earth', it's actually moving each year, so you have to adjust your compass, additionally the north and south poles have switched, 20 or so, i cant remember, but quite a few times throughout geologic history, which we know from looking at the alignment of grains, and other things in rocks where the sea floor is spreading, and other stuff. anyways yeah if you want to the top of the world...adjust your compass
  2. i think the pointer of compass should be south point magnet, vice verse.
  3. lets say the magnet when suspended, n attrcts s, and s attracts n..so once its known whch end is attrctng the north, the other end is indicating the direction.. Well if u want a good complete answer, plz email me. Thanks
  4. Actually the magnetic north pole is attracted towards the geographical south pole and magnetic south pole is attracted towards the geographical north pole.
