Commercial Christmas Decorations Knowledge Base
Is anyone else annoyed by all the Christmas stuff? It's not even Halloween and the stores are already full of Christmas decorations, Christmas sales, and there are tons of Christmas commercials. It's just annoying, we still have two months till Christmas! It kind of takes away from Christmas too because by the time it comes around most of us are tired of seeing it all. Anyone else feel this way and think they should wait till at least Thanksgiving to put it all out there?
Does Thanksgiving have anything to do with Christmas? Thanksgiving is a good holiday, its about what we are thankful for. But I have one question about this holiday, does it have anything to do with Christmas? I realized that during the Thanksgiving parade at the end we see Santa, people put up there Christmas decorations outside, we are talking about Christmas during the thanksgiving feast, I see Christmas commercials on tv and once in a very blue moon it might even snow during Thanksgiving. Does Thanksgiving really have anything to do with Christmas?
does anyone know where I can find Branch Christmas Garland in Bulk? I need the branch style Christmas Garland for indoor and outdoor use that I can use to decorate our church building. I know that Walmart and various retail stores have 9' strands for roughly $10, but I need around 322 feet, so I'm looking for a place to get it at a bulk price. I've tried searching for commercial christmas decorations, but they want around $5 per foot, making it ludicrously expensive. Could anyone offer any help? Is there somewhere I haven't thought of to go?
What is that commercial about being done with Christmas shopping? There is a commercial and I could have sworn it was for Target. It had all of the people setting up decorations and saying done after everything, and there is a girl that walks into a room with 2 bags and is dancing and say "Done! Done! done done done!" What is it called? Is it on youtube?
Christmas decorations on my car? What are the WA state laws for decorating a car or RV or even a commercial vehicle. Can they have red or green lights? Is there any limit to what can be done?
why is christmas coming earlier and earlier? all the holidays are actually. i went to the mall yesterday, and there was santa and holiday music and decorations everywhere. holiday themed commercials have been playing since october and abc family has a countdown to their 25 days of christmas (which is a countdown itself). i love christmas and all, but it seemed a bit ridiculous to walk into a store a month ago and see halloween decorations right next to christmas decorations. why is the holiday season starting so soon?
Is it too early early to decorate Christmas even a little? I'm just running a million miles a minute. In September I wanted it to Halloween in October I wanted it to be Thanksgiving and now I want it too be Christmas. The Christmas commercials are already up, I'm down and Christmas makes me happy for some reason. I'm not saying buy a Christmas tree but do you think I can take a few decorations out such as wreaths and stuff? If you think not what can I do to make it feel more like Thanksgiving already?
The Christmas Season has Begun! Are you excited? Today officially marks all the Christmas commercials start to come out,al the Christmas decorations are going up in the stores, little kids talking about what they want from Santa, and in just 4 weeks we will al be putting up our decorations. Are you excited? Why does America say its a non religious country and yet it always promotes christmas? They always have this garbage with christmas commercials on tv, christmas music on the radio, christmas decorations all over the place. That doesnt sound like a non religious country to me. Who do they think there fooling saying that its non religious? America is just another one of the loser christian countries. I'm an atheist and i know that theres no god. But if losers wanna think there is and celebrate garbage like christmas and easter, than let the losers do it but dont promote it so that i have to see that garbage.
Why do certain people celebrate Christmas? Why do atheists and people who are not religious celebrate Jesus's birthday? Why do they put up decorations and buy presents? I think Christmas is now officially just commercial. For the most part. Most people that celebrate it don't give a (expletive) about Jesus's birthday, but just want presents and to sell stuff. Why do atheists and non-religious people still celebrate the birth of Christ?
Have you toned down your Christmas due to finances? I don't know about you, but driving down my block I just don't see Christmas decorations in as many yards. Some houses don't even have a tree in the window. With the price of gas driving up the price of Everything some people must be finding it difficult to deal with the commercial demands of Christmas. I'm disabled. I live on less than $730 a month. Even though I bought presents through the year for the grandkids I simply could not budget anything for the adults in my life. Heating my home has become near impossible. So while everyone else is rushing about to stores and Buying Buying Buying... I sit at home with a 3 foot tree with 9 presents under it. All of them are for my two grandsons. I haven't gotten a single present from a relative --nor do I expect anything. We are all far too broke. So have a Merry Christmas everyone, but in all your merryment--stop and think about those who have less. I have a roof over my head and food to eat- not a feast--but food. Enjoy!
Is Christmas taboo? **DISCLAIMER – Keep in mind that am not a Christian fanatic. In fact, I'm an agnostic. This is just a objective observation.** I just saw a commercial—it had Santa, Christmas trees, other decorations, and nothing to demonstrate any other holiday. But the word "Christmas" was not mentioned once; instead "holiday" was used around 5 times. Then I thought... this is actually the case for pretty well every single Christmas commercial I've ever seen in 15 years. Why? Is it not okay to say the word "Christmas" in any instance whatsoever by any secular organization? I heard that something like 96% of us celebrate it... I don't celebrate Halloween and there are other holidays around October 31 but we still hear the word "Halloween" associated with actual HALLOWEEN things... Is the word itself—Christmas—taboo?? Like the F word or s hit? Is it THAT BAD?
Why does Thanksgiving always get shafted? Most people already have Christmas Decorations and lights up. There are already Christmas commercials being aired. Local radio stations are already playing Christmas music. Did they all forget about the very important Holiday next Thursday? ahhhh a Quagmire reference. Never gets old.
Volkswagen Commercial? What song is in it? The commercial has a guy cleaning out his garage of christmas decorations. I think the tagline is like "claim your garage". No idea what car it was. I want to know the song on it.
Why are holidays crammed down our throats? Halloween JUST finished and I just saw a commercial on TV advertising a CHRISTMAS SALE! I would know because there were christmas carols in the background!! So what's the deal with holiday's being crammed down our throats as soon as one ends. And the Christmas decorations were out at the beginning of October at Target! I don't get it. Thoughts?
Christians: Do you observe the birth of Christ ("Christmas")? Despite the murmurs of its pagan roots, do you still observe Christmas as a celebration and remembrance of Christ's birth? Do you set up a Christmas tree and decorations, and partake in the gift-giving and other commercial/secular aspects? Or do you merely attend a church service and possibly have a dinner?
How do I get my kids excited about Hanukkah? In the town I live its very much Christian influenced and already the christmas commercials have started and decorations up in stores, is there any jewish parents in here can help me get the kids more exicted about jewish holiday rather than santa! Thanks! Thanks those are some good ideas!
Song/Company to Car Commercial? Does anyone know what company this commercial is for: There's snow around and a guy putting Christmas decorations out and then i think he gets in a car. I'm looking for the song title, but the company would help.

Do you feel the 'Christmas Spirit' this year? Personally, I don't. Each year Christmas seems to become downsized. When I think of Christmas, I think of snow, decorations outside of peoples houses, decorations in stores, Christmas caroling, people in Santa hats, Christmas songs in stores, Christmas songs on the radio, towns filled with Christmas lights, posters, hangings, whatever, Santa Clause walking around shopping malls, little kids excited over Christmas, TV shows and movies playing constantly on TV, commercials for Christmas, you know what I'm talking about right? It just seems that each year this becomes less and less., especially this year. To me it doesn't even feel like Christmas, this is supposed to be a happy, joyful time but it just feels like any other month or week through out the year. I'm not trying to be a downer but Christmas just isn't what it used to be. Am I crazy or does anyone else feel this?
Christmas time is here!?!?!?!? i didnt realize how fast it was coming!! ive already seen a bunch of christmas commercials for hallmark and poptarts and a bunch of other things!! im soooo excited! also, people are already talking about the thanksgiving day parade!! stores already have decorations and ornaments!!! me and my dad were looking at them all in CVS the other day! and ABC Family is advertising their christmas movies! im watching the countdown to 25 days of christmas commercial right now!! are you guys excited too? tell me about some christmas traditions, memories, etc. or just whatever you love about christmas!!!
Is Christmas starting early this year? Are you annoyed by it yet? Ok I don't know if I'm alone on this, but I am just burnt out already! It seems like they start Christmas earlier and earlier every year. What's next? Christmas decorations in stores and homes go up in April? Right after Halloween BAM! Christmas trees were going up, the sounds of air guns and screams in the air as Christmas lights went up. Thing Is I'm just not really ready for Christmas this year, I could care less about Christmas this year and I don't know why. Holiday movies, music and commercials are on 24/7 it seems! Anyone else burnt out and do you think it has anything to do with the faltering economy? I just don't want to spend money this year at all. I feel like I'm being such a Scrooge! Edit: Yeah the economy has kind of got me worried and in the Christmas blues! I just want to tighten my wallet and focus on finishing college. I also don't want anything for Christmas. I want my parents (21) to donate some food, clothing, etc. to a homeless shelter for Christmas instead of filling my life with more materialistic crap! Bah humbug? Important EDIT: I mean I'M 21 not that i have 21 parents LOL!!!!! MY BAD!!
Are you getting ready for Christmas/holidays yet? When do you start to? When do you start getting ready for the holiday season? I cant wait for it and I'm Jewish lol. I honestly think only crazy people get ready so early for the holiday season but you never know. I love the decoration, the food, the music, the shopping and the commercials and all that christmasy stuff :) So, when do you start getting ready for Christmas?
Last time I checked the holiday was Christmas. Whats with happy holidays and no decorations from retailers? The 4th of July isn't the 3rd it's the fourth. Yea I know it's also independence day. The Holiday is Christmas. Haunaka is a minor day to Jews. Kwanzaa is a joke. Since when is a religion that celebrates smoking pot taken seriously? Nothing against the spleef but it's a joke. The attitude is driven by insurance companies who won't cover law suits from saying Merry Christmas. Any one who sues for this is a jerk. Now I'm an agnostic and have no use for religion but the holiday is Christmas. I don't blame liberals for it because a lot of them are against this nonsense. Most are spiritual and religious. I do blame the politically correct crowd because this is just stupid. Now the holiday just stands for greed. The commercials are telling you you should hint that you want a Lexus or a Lincoln. It's time to tell retailers Christmas is the holiday I suggest you don't shop at places that are doing this. That's almost everyone this year. Maybe the bottom line will wake them up.
When does the holiday season begin for you? for me it begins on halloween!!!! :) oh how I love the holidays and the decorations and the snow and the cozinessand the christmas commercials. The only thing I don't like is the commercialism. Holidays have become about presents...$300 presents. People are morons for that. although once in awhile its ok I guess. When do the holidays begin for you? the holiday season?
Why do you think America has become so commercial? Back in the 30's, 40's, 50's, stores didnt put up Christmas decorations in September and they didn't expect half of America to go bankrupt making sure everybody had the coolest gadgets of the season. Why do you think businesses evolved into these holiday monsters? Are the CEO's of companies so greedy that they will do anything in their power to make money off of anyone? It kind of kills my holiday spirit when the Christmas decorations are in the store next to the Halloween decorations and Halloween is still two weeks away, or when people can't find enough time to spend with their families in Oct., Nov., and Dec. because they are working overtime to pay for wonderful gifts. Our grandparents got small gifts and lots of homeade things when they were young and were still happy. What do you think? Are these business killing your holiday spirit? Sorry for posting this under Thanksgiving, I meant for it to be under Christmas - please forgive :)
Its almost christmas!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!? i cant wait till christmas! it will be thanksgiving then christmas i cant wait i love the movies, decorations, commercials, music and the cold arent you excited?
Do You Miss Christmas The Day After Christmas? I know I do. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, a couple of radio stations plays nothing but Christmas music 24/7, people deocorate their homes with beautiful lights, on tv there are hundreds upon hundreds of christmas themed tv shows and movies constantly airing, and even the commercial advertisements on tv and in magzines and newspapers are all Christmas themed. All the christmas trees and decorations, etc. And then the day after Christmas, with the exception of the still decorated homes, it's all over in an instant as if someone flipped a switch. That quick. No more Christmas music on the radio. No more christmas themed movies and tv shows. Not even Christmas themed advertisements, etc.
Anybody else excited for christmas :D? I know I am i've already seen a few Christmas commercials already and stores already are starting out with there decorations I mean it really is an appropriate time to start getting excited since time between now and christmas really fly's and it will be gone before you know it Also couple of questions? 1. What is your favorite holiday meal/snack/beverage? (pick one or all three) 2. What is your favorite holiday song? (name as many as you like) 3. What do you do for the holidays? 4. What is your favorite part about the holiday season? 5. What do you want for Christmas? (optional)
Do you love Christmas and the holidays season? Oh boy do I love the holidays. Although the constant Christmas commercials that begin as early as October are annoying, I still enjoy em. I love the decorations - the beautiful lights and tree. (I am a Jew and still love it) The delicious food and cuddling up with a hot cup of cocoa. under a warm blanket. A time for family and friends and love. I enjoy the cold and the snow so I dress up in warm clothing. Making snowmen, snowball fights. :) Isn't it just a wonderful time of year? I wish I could wrap my arms around the world and tell you all Happy Holidays!! Peace on Earth!
English Christmas vs. Canadian Christmas? It might just be me, but it feels like us Canadians aren't very festive. We put up lights on a few streets in the city, have a parade, and then everybody gripes about Christmas being too commercial. And all in all the festive season feels like it lasts maybe a week, at best. For some reason it always seems like the Brits KNOW how to celebrate Christmas and I imagine that culturally it's a more popular thing. Do you have Christmas markets like in Germany? How long does the holiday season last? From a foreigners perspective it looks like there are way more decorations, displays, events, and get-togethers. So what's Christmas like in England, or the UK in general? oh, and of course some people put lights up on their houses or apartments, but it usually looks awful, with mismatched sets of lights that look as if they're 20 years old. I've read that there's a huge obsession with gift wrapping in the UK, and that many people consider it a competition, or consider the wrapping to be as important as the gift inside. true or not?
Who is sad Christmas is all over for another year? Hmm but guessing a few of u cranky folks are probably relieved.. I know a few people who hate this time of year and I feel very sorry for them!! Anyway I'm slightly depressed.. everyone is back to being their non merry selves and I even miss those chessy christmas commercials on TV. Also the thought of going back to work is no fun either!! I still have my tree up (fake- as it is hot where I live) and all the decos/lights. But I plan on pulling down all the decorations tomorrow and the tree and lights go down New Years Eve. When do you all pull your tree/decos down? Or do you do it straight after X-mas? Ok happy New Year everyone!!
The Twelve Days of Christmas: does anyone...? ...still keep this tradition? When I was a child the Christmas tree, and the house, were decorated on Christmas Eve and the decorations came down late Jan 5th or early Jan 6th. The Twelve Days of Christmas. That really made Christmas. Does anyone still put the tree up on Christmas Eve? Or, at the other extreme, how early and long has the season now got? Lit trees in shops I saw in late September, I've heard my first recorded Christmas carols, and now seen my first Christmas TV ad. Maybe it can't be got back to Christmas Eve, but I would dearly love to to have Christmas in December. Has it got stupidly big and commercial or am I just a curmudgeon? There you are: a range of questions... Kychick: "The true meaning of Christmas " is a not a trivial question for me, it being a commercial exploitation of a Christian overlay on a pagan midwinter festival! (And me not being Christian, pagan or into shopping!)
Do YOU like my essay? Tell me what you think? I know my attitude is negative towards Christmas. It is almost that time of the year again, the time when corporations like Wal-Mart and Toys-R-Us begin to air commercials wherein they depict a happy family opening up gifts on Christians morning from their respective stores. The months and weeks leading to Christmas also mark the start of cold weather, shorter days, the hanging of Christmas decorations and the vile taste of store bought eggnog. For most people, Christmas and the activities leading up to it leave them feeling absolutely jubilant and excited, but not me. Each year, I always attempt to mute the Christmas commercials when they come on the TV, stay in denial about the days becoming shorter, and put off hanging up the decorations for a few more weeks while I make believe that it is a beautiful, warm summer’s day. All these methods intended to “postpone” Christmas end in vain, though, as reality eventually always catches up with me. I always, in the end, am forced into participating in the preparations leading up to Christmas time. Put simply, Christmas time is a time of greed and material goods that causes stress, anger and debt. I do not like Christmas. If there were a way to make people forget all about Christmas every December, I would certainly exercise it. Christmas is a time of stress, greed, high expectations, debt, hustle and bustle, and late nights wrapping and labelling gifts for ungrateful kids. The commercials, which are designed for the sole purpose to manipulating people into buying over priced gifts that will end up broken and forgotten about 6 months later, leave me longing for a time when I was younger where I did not have to worry about actually buying the gifts—I was the recipient. I was completely ignorant of the time and energy it took to buy these gifts. Shopping in crowded malls, where you are literally shoulder-to-shoulder with 50 other people at any given moment just adds to the sentiment that Christmas is really just a time to be stressed out over trivial things such as buying gifts and going into debt over it. To boot, each person is just as miserable as I am; we are all in a rush to get out of the mall as soon as possible. Naturally, as the stress levels build, someone is bound to bark out at some poor soul, “get out of the way!” or “make up your mind on what toy you’re grabbing so I can get by!” This stress is probably coincided with the thought: “I better get the right gift, otherwise my friends and family will think I do not care about them,” like gifts are the ultimate gauge to judge whether one cares. All this adds to the overall unpleasant nature of buying gifts. In addition to the stress of buying gifts, Christmas has become a time of accruing material goods, a time of reaching deep into your pockets for the wrong reasons, and a time for people to justify greed. A perfect example of the greed I alluded to is the fact that my aunt Cathy wants us to all spend at least $100 dollars on each person to prove that we put the effort into getting meaningful gifts. This is such a perversion of the idea of “good” gifts. I thought that is was the thought that goes into buying gifts that we should really be looking for. Instead, it seems that the tangible value of a gift outweighs the intention and idea. Moreover, each year, it seems, the greed gets worse. It used to be that we all got what we could afford, but now it seems the prevailing idea is to “dig deeper, deeper and deeper. Go into debt. All that matters is that you buy an expensive gift. It is the money that counts.” The thing that angers me the most is that people go into financial debt over Christmas. I have know many people who have had to spend literally every dollar they have on gifts because they feel that if they do not go all out, people will perceive them as either poor, or uncaring and cheap. People end up becoming depressed and understandably stressed out at the ultimatum of either going broke over buying extravagant gifts, or being judged as cheap and disconnected. This reality is likely part of the reason why Christmas, for many people, is a depressing time that people begrudgingly participate. However, there is an aspect of Christmas that I do like, though, and that is the idea of getting together with family and friends so that you can enjoy the presence of their company and reminisce about stories from the past. I like that aspect. In addition, the food, such as turkey, potatoes, carrots, gravy, etc is a silver lining of Christmas for me as nobody makes a better turkey than my mom. That being said, do we really need a holiday to do such things? Can we not make plans with each other on any of the other 364 days of the year? Can we not make a nice dinner for no other reason than it is good to eat well sometimes? I wasn't able to fit it in its entirety due to character limits; judge whats there.
Has anyone else not got into Christmas this year ? I love Christmas, I love the tree and decorations, I love the Carols singing and Christmas songs...well I do normally. I'm sat here on Christmas morning with no Christmas spirit or excitment about it at all. I'm glad I have the time of work to catch up on some jobs but that's it. I don't dislike it but it's as if it's by-passed me this year. I do dislike how commercial it has become and have tended to avoid the TV and shops this year. Does anyone else fell the same this about Christmas this year ?
Why do atheists celebrate Christmas? It's been explained before about the whole religion aspect. Now I know about the whole family, tradition side, but I think it's a bit weird. I'd personally not do it if I could. I only do because it makes people happy e.g. my mother or my girlfriend, but I don't put any decorations up or sing carols or anything. I think the celebration has become sickeningly commercial and I feel we'd be better off without it.
Anyone else getting pumped up for Christmas 2009? Just yesterday i found myself walking past a Hallmark in one of the malls in my area, and wouldn't you know it, they had Christmas trees displayed in the windows! although everyone else in the mall probably disregarded it, i thought it was great! i love Christmas, whether it be too commercial or expensive, everything about the holiday itself makes me pretty happy. anyway, i walked into the Hallmark and started checking out the decorations on display, before i knew it, i had one of the cashiers looking at me. "Beautiful aren't they?" she asks. we get into a brief conversation about how christmas is awesome, blah, blah. etc. She eventually starts to tell me that she made her way up to Whitby (area in Ontario) and found one of those giant model holiday houses that usually retail for well over $100, and bought it for $20. she went on saying how she's so excited for the holiday to come, and that she's already started putting out the house display that she bought! personally, i thought that was pretty wild seeing as it's JULY. but it's definitely inspired me. i'll have my tree up November 1st, which just conveniently happens to be a Sunday! Besides all of the stress and commercialism that the holiday can bring, is anyone a little excited that it's coming up so soon? 147 days!
There are those who wish to eliminate the nativity from Christmas, which is a celebration of the birth of ? Jesus Christ. I am shocked to think that one would even consider the notion. (stepping on my soapbox) When your family celebrates your birthday, are YOU not included? So let's have a cake and candles and give presents to each other and sing Happy Birthday to Joe the Plumber. You are not allowed, and you can't even put up a picture of yourself anywhere. Isn't this ludicrous? Better yet, let's just get rid of Lincoln's birthday, King Jr's birthday, and Washington's birthday, shall we? Let's celebrate no birthdays at all, including yours. Fourth of July? Nope, it's our nation's birthday. Fireworks are icons, not allowed. Hmm. Don't want to give up those days off work? Didn't think so... Here's a good question: If you are not celebrating Christ's Birthday, then why are you celebrating Christmas at all? And if someone else wants to celebrate their birthday, or yours, who are you to tell them they cannot? Separation of Church and State has NOTHING to do with Christmas; I don't know why it's even an issue. So many have forgotten what Christmas is, I'm surprised we still call it Christmas! It has become so commercial that everyone seems to have forgotten why we have it to begin with. I would suggest that we celebrate Christmas as one big huge wonderful Birthday Party for the Lord Jesus Christ, and quit grumbling about the decorations. Somewhere in this are a couple of questions if anyone cares to answer them, but I don't expect anyone who doesn't believe in Jesus as the Christ will want to suggest a replacement icon for the nativity. After all, what image can an Atheist put up? Santa? Santa would become the icon, and then you have another religious issue. In fact, any icon that is used, whether it be a star, Santa, or a wreath, becomes a religious icon when it takes the place of the Real Thing. And please, if you are going to offer a stupid answer, find another place to do it so you don't look foolish here. (stepping off my soapbox) To those who understand and celebrate the REAL reason for the season, M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S !!!! It makes absolutely NO difference when the birthday is celebrated. In my family we have many birthdays in December. Several times we have celebrated those birthdays in June and July, just so their birthdays are not meshed in with Christmas. We also have "Christmas in July" sales, don't we? This is not an issue, folks. Who cares who started it when? The fact is, it's a birthday celebration that many wish to celebrate in whatever way they want, and should be able to without your griping. And if you really felt that Christmas should not be celebrated, you wouldn't be out buying presents, now, would you? Yes, there is Solstice, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, and others. How many of you have seen us get out feathers ruffled over these holidays? The point is, and always will be, celebrate the holiday, birthday, season, or festival that you wish, THAT IS YOUR FREEDOM. And let those who want to celebrate theirs do so with peace and joy. to Kelly, Yes, it does. You should know this. And thanks for copy/pasting my statement, it bears repeating. to Valas, Sorry, dear, the large question mark asked who ?, and "Jesus Christ" was and is the answer. NO epithet was intended or suggested. Thanks for pointing that out. There will always be birthdays and holidays, it wouldn't matter when Christians chose to celebrate Christmas. To those who don't love him, there will always be an excuse. BTW, I have acquired a cute little dog from the pound, and I have no idea when his birthday is, but I would like to celebrate it. If I don't know when it is, does that mean I cannot just choose a day and have fun? Come on, people, trying thinking it out rather than reciting what you've been told to believe. And I do believe "Christmas" has the word "Christ" in it, doesn't it? Why would any of you say that Christmas is not the celebration of Christ's birthday? We all know about the pagan holidays, but that has as much to do with Christmas as the coming of Spring has to do with Easter. But that is another soapbox question, isn't it? Sage, Thanks for the history lesson, it was impressive. However, Christians do not care if Christmas is/was a pagan holiday. Christians celebrate Christmas because it's the day they have chosen to celebrate the birth of Christ. I know the history of all the pagan holidays, I am a school teacher. I am not ignorant to the truth of what was once pagan and still is. As you have missed the entire point of my soapbox,(and a few more examples of pagan worship), here is my point yet again: No matter what, how, or when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, we should be able to do so with no persecution, just as you are allowed to celebrate solstice, trees, and elves. If you want to put an elf in the yard, that is your business. If your city fathers want to line the streets with little elves, let them do so. In kind, if your neighbor or city fathers choose to put up a nativity, they should be allowed. We should ALL have unencumbered freedom to celebrate as we wish. Fair enough? Hi Josh, This is a common misconception, that we think Jesus is the reason for the "weather" season. When we say, "Jesus is the Reason for the Season" We are not talking about Winter Solstice. We are talking about the Christmas Season, which currently starts around Halloween and ends around New Year's. It is truly a "season" that includes a "day" that is specifically celebrated for the birth of our Lord. I appreciate your comments. Thanks. Thanks, TJ. isn't it interesting how so many people jumped on the same wagon going in the wrong direction and missed the point entirely. On a day specified to celebrate a birthday, why would someone want to celebrate anything else, or keep someone else from celebrating it? On my birthday, I guess I'm going to have to celebrate the phases of the moon and put images of Otis Redding in the yard, and line the fence with English Bobbies....lol BT51, Looks like you were one of the few that stuck to the point. Responded simply and with logic. Thanks.
If you're a good party planner or you like Christmas, plz help me!!! I luv Christmas and am planning a party!! me and my best friend are planning a Christmas party. we need help planning music, movies, decorations, food, and entertainment. it can be only girls and there are gonna be 13 and 14 year olds there, so nothing babyish. for music, if you've seen the commercial for deck the halls, in the background is a song that's a rock version of the song that goes fa la la la la, la la la la, tis the season to be jolly, all that. for movies, i was thinking jingle all the way, deck the halls, and movies like that, but I can't think of anything. for food, we're on a budget, so i'd like your help. we're doing secret santa where everyone gives a list of things that are about $10 & where to find them and all. we were also gonna have each guest give $5 to help pay 4 the party. problem: a girl who wasn't invited (she's obnoxious and kinda lesbian) saw us planning it and started crying cuz she wasn't on the guest list. we put up w/ her & let her hang out with us, but we REALLY dont want her @ the party. plz
Does anyone enjoy or know about writing a story? I'm planning on bringing my creativeness to a new level by writing a novel or perhaps even a screenplay and seeing how well i can do. I have wrote a piece just now to receive your feedback and advice. I thank you for your time and input. I will restrain from writing the plot for obvious reasons. A young rough looking man in his late 20's stands on a rooftop sipping a steaming cup of coffee whilst looking out over the ant like human beings that scurry along the false safety of the slippery sidewalks. The christmas decorations further infuse a sense of magic among the public as 'Jingle Bell's' plays repeatedly from the stores, shamelessly fooling the ever delirious customer's into believing that christmas is something more than a commercial marketing campaign designed to part the holiday spirited, vibrant yet robot like organisms of today's society into parting with more money. For some reason our coffee drinking new friend looks upon them with a mix of hatred and jealousy. He has never had anyone to pretend to him that Santa Clause is real and has missed out on the cheerfull smiling faces gathered around the plastic pine needles shaped into a tree which looks down on every child as they unwrap the perfect presents on a dreadfully delightfull day. If you look close enough into his eyes you can almost see an all consuming sense of pain. Children run around filled and fueled with adrenalin as there mother's and father's inject fancifull tales of flying raindeer into there minds. The last thing our subject's mother injected was a fatal needlefull of near pure heroin into her arm which ended her ever downward spiraling life and in turn cemented the fatalistic attitude into her on-edge offspring all those years ago. What's your thoughts, reflections or advice for me? Thanks
If you read this at the start of a book, would you read on? Forgive the grammar as i'am only interested in the thoughts about the start of what could be the basis for a novel or screenplay. I wrote this in the time it took my girlfriend to get a shower so dont be overly critical please. Do you think its worth persuing? I have asked a similar question before but i have chose to expand on what i'm actually asking so forgive me for it. Thanks

Song on J.C. Penny commericial??? Who sings that song on the J.C. Penny commercial they play all the time now. I don't remember anything really significant about the commercial, except that they show a watch in it and it's at Christmastime...outside with Christmas decorations. The song says "all that I want...all that I want..." at the end of it. The singer kind of sounds like Colbie Caillat but I think it's someone else. Well I wondered if it was an actual song or just a commerical ditty! Haha...but it sounds kind of nice.
About Halloween? More and more people are decorating and celebrating halloween. It has become almost as popular as the Christmas decorations & celebrations all over the place, parties, etc.. can anyone tell me where and when people began to celebrate HALLOWEEN. Was it a religious rite at the beginning or a commercial idea for business purposes? I wonder? Personnally, I like it because it is kind of colorful.
Commercialization of the holiday season? Do you feel the Holidays have just become too commercial? I feel so pressured to shop shop shop! I was actually feeling guilty because I didnt go shopping today! It's almost as if some one fires a starting gun as soon as the 1st store opens on Black Friday and its all just a big race to January 1st! Like its some kind of professional sporting event! UGHHH I really dont even feel like putting up our tree this year... its all just become TOO MUCH! There are Christmas decorations up as early as October these days! Its just CRAZY. I make cookies for all my extended friends and family. Including long held family recipes that we only make once a year. I also hand write the gretting in my Christmas cards. When I do decorate for the season I incorporate Chritmas, Hannuka and Kwanza decorations in our house. What do you do to make the Holiday season special and not commercial?
Christmas day? Is it to invite your friends & family to get drunk or rejoice in the birth of Jesus Christ? Letter from Jesus to us........ PEACE BE WITH YOU As you well know, we are getting closer to my birthday. Every year there is a celebration in my honor and I think that this year the celebration will be repeated. During this time there are many people shopping for gifts, there are many radio announcements, TV commercials, and in every part of the world everyone is talking that my birthday is getting closer and closer. It is really very nice to know, that at least once a year, some people think of me. As you know, the celebration of my birthday began many years ago. At first people seemed to understand and be thankful of all that I did for them, but in these times, no one seems to know the reason for the celebration. Family and friends get together and have a lot of fun, but they don't know the meaning of the celebration. I remember that last year there was a great feast in my honor. The dinner table was full of delicious foods, pastries, fruits, assorted nuts and chocolates. The decorations were exquisite and there were many, many beautifully wrapped gifts. But, do you want to know something? I wasn't invited. I was the guest of honor and they didn't remember to send me an invitation. The party was for me, but when that great day came, I was left outside, they closed the door in my face .. and I wanted to be with them and share their table. In truth, that didn't surprise me because in the last few years all close their doors to me. Since I wasn't invited, I decided to enter the party without making any noise. I went in and stood in a corner. They were all drinking; there were some who were drunk and telling jokes and laughing at everything. They were having a grand time. To top it all, this big fat man all dressed in red wearing a long white beard entered the room yelling Ho-Ho-Ho! He seemed drunk. He sat on the sofa and all the children ran to him, saying: "Santa Claus, Santa Claus" as if the party were in his honor! At midnight all the people began to hug each other; I extended my arms waiting for someone to hug me and do you know no-one hugged me. Suddenly they all began to share gifts. They opened them one by one with great expectation. When all had been opened, I looked to see if, maybe, there was one for me. What would you feel if on your birthday everybody shared gifts and you did not get one? I then understood that I was unwanted at that party and quietly left. Every year it gets worse. People only remember the gifts, the parties, to eat and drink, and nobody remembers me. I would like this Christmas that you allow me to enter into your life. I would like that you recognize the fact that almost two thousand years ago I came to this world to give my life for you, on the cross, to save you. Today, I only want that you believe this with all your heart. I want to share something with you. As many didn't invite me to their party, I will have my own celebration, a grandiose party that no one has ever imagined, a spectacular party. I'm still making the final arrangements.. Today I am sending out many invitations and there is an invitation for you. I want to know if you wish to attend and I will make a reservation for you and write your name with golden letters in my great guest book. Only those on the guest list will be invited to the party. Those who don't answer the invite, will be left outside. Be prepared because when all is ready you will be part of my great party. See you soon. I Love you!
Question for pagans regarding Yule decorations? Well, it's actually almost Litha in the southern hemisphere, but as everyone does christmas at the same time, i wanted to ask if anyone has made their own wreath from scratch? I've found some beautiful native creepers that we were pruning in the backyard, and have used it as the base, i'm going to add some feathers, ribbons, and connifer twigs to brighten it up. And if the purple wysteria has its second bloom soon, i'll add some on the day (addicted to purple lol). Beats all that tacky commercial crap that doesn't last a season (which is in the rest of the house lol). Have you perhaps got any new ideas or just some good old fashioned ones to share in regards to warming up the house for the season?
What's the name of that christmas song?!? It's kinda fast, and sounds like it is done with a piano. It's in a lot of commercials, and I don't think it has words. I also know a house's holiday decorations were synced with the song. What's the name of it? (guesses are okay.) help please!
Why do christian people ask me this question....? 'Why do you not celebrate christmas' I have just started my new job, thank Allah. I have a lot of white middleclass co-workers. Its christmas as evident from the commercial and colourful festive decorations in shops and work place. I really want to do well and get along with my work mates. However, I feel like I am treading on eggshells. My co-worker keep asking me the same question 'why do you not celebrate christmas'. My response is 'I just don't'. It is evident from my appearance that I am a muslim and practicing one. I wear the full hijab and jilbab. i respect the co-workers that they are christians and believe jesus as the son of god. However, as a muslim, celebrating christmas is not in my deen (i.e. religion). I personally do not expect christians to celebrate Eid and then why do they expect me to celebrate christmas? It is not that difficult to understand. Why celebrite something I do not believe in just to fit in? I do not mind at all that they celebrate christmas or talk about it because its their belief and I am secure in my faith. peace
Tell the truth. If you could get up the courage, would you stop celebrating the 'Holidays' and. . .? just be the sane-minded person you are the rest of the year? I mean, every year you go through this, feel the obligations, get out the decorations, put them away again, say how joyful you are, etc. Would you stop if you could? Bottom line, what is your fly-on-the-wall perspective on the holidays? How commercial has it all become? In South Korea, Christmas is obvious only in a few of the biggest-name department stores and palces, but not even much there. Is that where the real spirit lies, in selling it to the public. I don't see much religion in the holidays anymore, no matter what anyone says.
Hi Christians. Can you answer my question about Chritmas? I'm a Catholic, and around the holidays sometimes I get frustrated with the commercialism of Christmas. Sure, having presents, decorations, and stuff is nice, but I'm not revolving my entire Christmas around presents. So many people nowerdays are really greedy around Christmas. It's gotten much too commercial, even so called "Christians" are taking Christ out of Christmas. I thought this season was about celebrating the Lord's birth, not about getting a Coach purse or an iPhone. Does anyone else feel this way? My family and I make it a point to attend Church on Christmas eve, and we spend time with our relitaves. As for me, I'm involved with a prodject to give money to the less fortunate so they can have a Christmas.
Celebrate religious holidays?? Do any other atheists celebrate Christmas? I do, solely for the commercial aspect of it. . . hehe. I love the 'feeling' of Christmas, from the music to the decorations, to the gift giving (and getting). I don't think my son should miss out on the feeling of family that this holiday brings about. I have explained to him what some people think it means, but I have also explained my thoughts on the matter. He can make his own decisions as he gets older (he's almost 7), but I do not want to him to blindly follow my beliefs.
Its EASTER right now! I always thought Easter was in April? We all know that Easter is more than a month away in April right? Why is it that they put out decorations and candy for these holidays way-way to early? Now everywhere I go I am starting to see Easter signs and the kids are going to be bugging about the bunny coming for the next 40 something days. *angry facial expression -"Look mom, chocolate eggs"--"I want chocolate eggs!"--"whens the Easter bunny coming?"--2 hours later "whens the Easter bunny coming mom?" Drive me frickin' nuts. lol For Christmas they had stuff out at the the beginning of November and the kids were almost exhausted about Santa by the time he actually got here and then Valentines Day was the same. I can understand with Christmas cause people wanna be prepared but seriously...how hard is it to get out and buy some little treats and some candy. Does this bug anyone else? It just seems like holidays are for commercial use only ya know---there is no actually feeling to them anymore unless your buying something. :(
Christians, what do you think of this email I got? I thought it was very thought provoking. Usually I don't foward this stuff, but I thought this one deserved to get fowarded.
