North pole? If all the ice from the north pole were to melt this summer, how will it affect us. Will the oceans rise to levels we have not seen before. It is said as the years go on there will be less and less ice. Should we be very concerned.
North Pole? Ok so the first baseball game played on the North Pole was by the crew USS Seadragon, but I want to know who played the first game of soccer. So who was it? The Russians? British? Gimme some Yahoo Answers love.
How much more do you weight at the north pole then at the equator? A 72.0 kg man weighs himself at the north pole and at the equator. It is said that you will weigh more at the north pole. How much more will you weight at the north pole then at the equator? human intuition will say the same weight but according to physics its wrong....ignore the ice..its the direction of the normal and weight that matters
What happens if you stand on the magnetic north pole with a compass? My science teacher asks us to do this extra credit question. So, what do YOU think happens if you have a compass and you are standing directly above the magnetic north pole (and no, that's not the north pole where Santa Claus lives.) Do you think the compass needle would just keep pointing north or break or the needle would spin around or what?
What continent does the north pole belong? Or is it just marked on the map because we then can pinpoint where the north and south poles of the world are? I already know that the north pole is completely surrounded by water. Any insight into this would be helpful!
How can a plane that takes off from the North Pole land in a city at the equator? This question puzzles me... Because the Earth is round and is spinning, someone standing at the North Pole is actually moving 1000 mph slower than someone standing at the equator even though both are standing still relative to the Earth. This is because it takes a 24 hrs to do one revolution and one revolution is 24,000 miles more at the equator than at the North Pole ( 1ft / 24 hrs ~ 0 mph but 24,000 miles / 24 hrs = 1000 mph). So how can a passenger jet, which can't travel faster than roughly 600 mph, not counting the Concorde, that takes off from the North Pole, or South Pole, catch up and land on a runway that is traveling at 1000 mph?
How close must you be to the North Pole to see it from a plane at an altitude of 10,000 meters? Please account for these factors: 1. The radius of the earth is less at the poles. 2. The flattening effect of the earth's rotational spin also makes the earth's surface at the poles flatter resulting in a horizon further away. 3. The refraction of light through the earth's atmosphere allows me to see slightly below the geometric edge of the horizon. 4. You are not directly above the North Pole, you are actually a short distance away. What is the maximum distance from the North Pole you can be (at an altitude of 10,000 meters) and still see it? This will not be the exact same number as if you were above the pole since the flattest part of the planet is on the horizon, not straight down. I was in an airplane which flew nearly over the north pole, but not quite. I found out when the plane was at it's closest point, pointed my camera out the window due north, and took a few shots. I simply want to find out if I have a picture of the north pole or not!
How do you find North when you standing in North Pole? Suppose I am standing in North Pole, then how many directions do I have to move furthur? Just two?(East and West)? Or Can I still go to further North? How does Geologists define directions in north or south pole? Does I really make sense to anybody? Please share your views
The reason the north pole of a bar magnet free to rotate points north is because? a. the north geographic pole of the earth is the earth's magnetic north pole. b. The south geographic pole of the earth is the earth's magnetic south pole. c. there is a net accumulation of negative magnetic charge at the earth's south geographic pole. d. There is a net accumulation of positive magnetic charge at the earth's north geographic pole. e. The north geographic pole of the earth is the earth's magnetic south pole.
is the north pole and south pole of earth correct? As we know Naturaly earth is a big magnet. In magnet same pole will repels each other, take these condition when a magnet floats on surface (tied with rope), the north pole of a magnet suppose to be attracted by south pole of earth but we are accepting north direction shown by north pole of a magnet why?
How many hours do the North and South pole get? How many hours of daylight does the North Pole experience when the Northern Hemisphere is receiving the most direct sunlight? How many hours of daylight is the South Pole experiencing during this same time?
When standing at the North Pole, which direction is North? Since to my understanding North is the direction pointing to the North pole, it seems like when you are actually at that point, North would be undefined since there is no direction to point to. If however, North is defined in reference to South, then it would be pointing up from the North pole - which is actually away from the North Pole. It therefore seems to me like it is undefined at that point?
How do I raise sponsorship to race to the North Pole? I am in a team of three and we need to raise £51,000 to race to the North Pole in April. We should be getting alot of media coverage on Channel 4 and BBC2 - has anyone got any ideas of corporate sponsors who might be interested in this winning team?
If you dug a hole starting at the north pole to the south pole, would you come out feet first? If you started digging a hole, at the north pole, at the very top of the earth, and dug all the way through the centre of the earth to the south pole at the bottom, how would you come out? Forget the fact that whilst digging the dirt would pile on top of you. It is just a straight simple tunnel. If gravity will turn you upside down would you end up digging upwards and come out head first? Or would you come out feet first, upside down?
Do airliners fly over the north pole when flying between north america and europe/asia ? (or the south pole when flying between south america and australia) It may be closer, but is the air too cold for the plane, or is it too dangerous to be that far from an airport (yes flying over the atlantic has the same danger, but it's only for a shorter period of time) Does a plane flying from LAX to Paris just go straight north and come into france from the north ?
Why is there no thunder at the north pole? In the popular cell phone game "Are you Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" One question asks where you cant hear thunder? The answer is "The North Pole" Why is thunder not present there?
What will happen If Antartica and the North Pole melt? And by what will happen I mean, I mean to them. I know the sea levels would rise, yadah, yadah. Do you think the invalid claims Russia has made on the North Pole will cause the next world war? Recently Russia placed a flag on the floor of the North Pole, (also previously done by Canada and the United States at separate times in the last hundred years or so). The Prime Minister of Canada is starting a trek to the North Pole, accompanied by an armed force including subs, fighter jets, and other military units, to refute that claim and take back what is "rightfully Canada's land". Do you feel that this aggressive move to show superiority in the northern Arctic, will result in the next World War, as more than one country is looking to claim that as their own piece of land?
how many people live at the north pole currently? I'm trying to figure out how many people are at the geographic north pole on average, or on any given day. I figure anyone living there is probably a researcher of some sort, and was curious as to how many there were on any given day. My guess is around 2.
